Littering sucks, but it's an easy target for ire. I imagine that a lot of socially acceptable forms of waste are far more destructive. Or at least more consistently destructive. Litter has a very high volume, but it's all so spread out. It kind of depends on where the litter is; in bodies of water and delicate ecosystems is very bad, but common litter on the side of the road or on a sidewalk, where there isn't much wildlife to begin with, doesn't seem to me like it's harming that much.

But it all ends up somewhere. My buddy found a Japanese water bottle washed up on the shore near here. I get your point though, it's noticeable and therefore most people deem it unacceptable, but throwing out billions in food (which also wastes a lot in the overproduction of it too) is exempt.
