And even if it was a public school. A uniformly applied dress code on a minor to represent the school on a field trip to an outside company would certainly fall under a reasonable time place and manner restriction.


In case you missed it, public schools ARE the government. And there already HAVE been decisions regarding political-themed clothing where SCOTUS defended the rights of students to wear clothing with certain political messages. While the ruling might not extend this far -- and it might not -- the principle is well within the realm of the First Amendment.


Which is why I included in my post the special circumstances of attending a field trip to an outside location and reasonable time place and manner restrictions.

I can see a school requiring all students to dress in suits as a condition to go on a voluntary field trip.
