After that it's a cycle, since people recognize them they get more upvotes, which means their posts are more visible, which means they get more people recognizing them... and so on. This happens both reddit-wide (well-known accounts have their own fanclubs https://www.reddit.com/r/Poem_for_your_sprog/ , https://www.reddit.com/r/Shitty_Watercolour/ and host AMAs which receive thousands of comments https://www.reddit.com/r/books/comments/3aungz/ , https://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/29nqnl/i_am_shitty_watercolour_i_went_from_painting/ ) as well as on specific boards (I can name probably the top 2-3 famous faces on each of the smaller specific-game boards I read, but not really anyone else).
