It's tying an overwhelming portion of the PC gaming market to a single DRM system linked to a single company.

When Steam dies - and eventually it will, whether that's tomorrow or 50 years from now - it will take thousands of games with it.

We can't know that. It's possible its library will shift to a different service or its possible they'll release a patch to strip out the DRM before shutting down. I'll admit that that's a gamble, though, but it's not a sure thing. Also you can get a large portion of the Steam library from GoG DRM free and GoG only exists because Steam pioneered the model.
