Gore and profanity is popular in superhero movies!" Then they just needlessly added as much gore and profanity as they could stick into the movie as they possibly could. The gore was supposed to be offputting, man. Wolverine has been around for like half a century and you rarely saw how grisly his claws and style of fighting (get hit and regenerate) really would be.
