TLDR; Gerry Mandering, Berners voting for Trump, Electoral College

States are divided into districts at a whim, zigzagging across streets and changing every year.
So you could for example, separate people voting for prunes from people voting from oranges.
If you do this arbitrarily enough, you can make it look like 8 out of 10 districts voted for oranges when 600 out of 1000 people voted for prunes.

Gerrymandering had nothing to do with the presidential election. Those districts are for congressional elections.
