I support the idea of affirmative action (not so much the way it's been implemented, but that's another issue) but that doesn't mean I'm not racist. I was raised and socialized in a racist society, so I am still racist in a lot of ways that I don't even realize. in this context, people should think about it as a process of personal growth - overcoming racism and personal biases - rather than a static "I am not racist" attitude. recognizing your own flaws is the first step to overcoming them.
