More importantly, at the time supposedly most viewers actually agreed with him so the writers' intent kinda backfired. Yes, it's pretty well documented that some people agreed with him. However, it's pretty clear the show was making fun of him. He was a stupid shlop who said racist and sexist things and we all laughed at him.
