You are vastly underestimating the number of confederate monuments compared to museums, as well as overstating their historical significance. As an example, 35 confederate monuments have been installed in North Carolina alone since the year 2000. That is within the living memory of most people on this site.

Most of the confederate monuments were not installed as historical pieces in the immediate aftermath of the conflict; they were installed during periods of heightened racial tension as a not so subtle message to blacks that whites were still running the show and they should tow the line or get out. If there's a notable artistic or historical reason why a given particular statue should be saved, fine, make that argument. But giving them a blanket pass "because history" is ridiculous, especially considering a lot of them were mass-manufactured.
