Once upon a time, a snake was outside the bank of a river, and needed to cross it, but it was too deep for the snake to get across. A fox saw the snake having trouble and walked up to the snake, and said "What is the problem, snake?" The snake replied, "I need to cross the river, but it is too deep, and I cannot swim." The fox said, "I can carry you across on my back, but you must agree not to bite me." The snake replied, "Very well, I promise not to bite you." So the fox let the snake climb onto his back and the fox began to swim across the river. As the fox gets halfway across the river, the snake bites the fox, right on the back of the neck. As the venom began to set in, paralyzing the fox who was now sinking, he let out a cry, "Why did you do this?! Now we will both die!" The snake replied, "Because I am a snake."
