Something else to consider is de facto segregation. Yes, racial minorities deal with discrimination, but they also often live in communities of like people. There aren't communities of transgender people, who are dealing with issues as an outlier in society.


But I also lol'd when Ben tried to push back about Rs being the anti-science party. That criticism is directed more often at religious fundies and global warming deniers. Not guys like Ben.


That's a fair point, but has probably changed in the era of social media.

Transgender people can now find like people to bond with in online communities (you can't swing a dead cat around Twitter or Tumblr without hitting a couple trans people). Probably even get together with trans people they find who live near by. It's not quite the same as it would've been 20 years ago where they'd essentially be totally isolated in hostile territory.
