You bring up Caitlyn winning an arbitrary award, I can bring you up countless articles of trans folks facing violence. I'm not exactly sure the award cancels out the fear of being assaulted daily. I'd also argue that telling them they have a mental disorder when they just want to fix what they see as a problem so that they can be happy goes against that pursuit of happiness.

All I'm saying is you can't make jump and say that the number is only that high because they are trans and no outside factors. Like I said, I'm sure that identity crisis does cause mental anguish, but I don't think that's all of it.

It probably isn't all of it, but it is probably most of the reason. Sure, trans people deal with discrimination, but so do other minority groups who don't approach nearly the same suicide rates despite having faced extremely poor treatment by society at large.

It seems to me that the constant, unending discomfort in their own bodies and the toll that takes on their mental well being probably has a lot more to do with it. I wouldn't be surprised if the effects of hormone therapy on the brain also play a role.
