My back-to-back needed to be home for a wedding so I ended up working an extra week on top of that once to cover for him. It really wasn't that bad. Getting the time off in lieu totally made it worth it. I only had to work for 6 months of the year. Oh, that year also involved one 36 hour shift and one 30 hour shift (40 depending on how you look at it, as I had to spend 10 hours traveling before I could go to sleep after the 30 hour shift).
