It depends what aspects of politics... My wife doesn't really care and finds the whole thing boring. Her interest begins and ends with equality and getting mad at people who are being ridiculous.

If somebody shared different views but wasn't forceful about it, I'm sure I could make it work. I don't expect anyone to ever agree with me politically, I just expect them to realize I am going to stick to my beliefs regardless of what others want me to think. I feel like I am almost always on the defensive rather than the offensive because all I do is state my opinion (usually directed at no one) and others take it upon themselves to get butt-hurt and start a fight. Ironically, they're typically too abrasive in their approach and make me less interested in hearing their side of things.

Many of my friendships are with hardcore Christians, but I am very much an atheist. We just live and let live and don't bother each other with the subject and find peace in common interests. It's not rocket science, but it does work better outside the veil of internet anonymity.
