Salvador was definitely my favourite character to play as. His ability scaled well and was practically always useful. He had ridiculous damage output and with it survivability. Other characters could edge him out in pure DPS, but his DPS was easy to build and maintain.

Krieg was my next favourite to play. He was also capable of hitting significant damage, but he required slightly more set up. He also had crazy survivability, so much so that when cooping and my 3 friends died on son of crawmerax, they just asked me to die so we could restart. I put away my grog nozzle and just stood in front of him, but my shield going off made it near impossible for him to kill me.

Maya was my third favourite. She has a lot of power and crowd control, and respectable damage when phaselock is up. Her biggest issue was that a lot of her skills depended on phaselock being up, and there were many enemies immune to being held by it, including every raid boss. That severely hurt her performance in those scenarios.

The other three I found not nearly as exciting. I was especially disappointed with Axton, given that Roland was my favourite from the first game. His turret just fell off in damage output too sharply at high level, only being useful for applying slag. At OP levels it regained some usefulness, continuing to scale somewhat, including nuke damage, but it wasn't really enough. It would have been nice if he had an ability to regenerate team ammo. Gaige, while still pretty strong with discord, falls into a similar boat as Axton. Deathtrap just falls off too much at high levels. She can still do great damage with high discord stack, but its annoying to have to build those every time I launch the game. Zer0 had a play style that just didn't gel with me. His damage output is ludicrous though, and I did manage some pretty fast kills with him.

All in all, I think the characters in The Pre-Sequel were better balanced and more fun to use.

Later on Gaige's bullets go literally everywhere. Like, her accuracy penalty is so harsh you're more likely to hit a foe via pointing in basically any direction but right at them. It's... freaking glorious!

You can also use a weapon with a fixed spread like heartbreaker or sand hawk to get around that.
