Last few months of every school year of one specific class was focused on sex ed from like 5th grade all the way up. I went to catholic school, and it was given by the same teacher who gave the religion classes (by design), and they never wanted to do it, so they kept it for the end of the year. It was required by law, but since it was at the end, they could always fallback to the "Whoops, we're running out of time, my bad!" excuse, so it was always rushed.

By 10th grade I had moved out of Catholic school and then the same stuff was given much earlier in the year, so then they actually spent the time to go through the material. The usual suspects...how it works, how various kinds of contraception work, how babies are made, how the organs work, diseases, risk, psychology of sexual relationships, blah blah blah.

We also had a pretty big section of human biology in 9th grade dedicated to it from a more scientific point of view.

Catholic school screw up aside, they did a decent job. I pretty much knew everything there was to know long before it was an issue.
