Guilty of murder? Ok, fine, he was found not guilty. But the prosecution fucked up royally by trying to have him charged that way anyways.

He definitely is guilty of manslaughter though without a doubt, and in these cases, while finding him guilty of murder would be proper justice--finding him guilty of manslaughter would have resulted in imprisonment, no payout, and a record that would follow him wherever he went, ensuring he never got a good paying job ever again (especially as a civil servant), and would have almost been a guaranteed win for the prosecution.

You don't gamble on cases like this. Now the family has to go on knowing he killed the guy, won the trial, gets a lump sum payment, and can move to another jurisdiction for another job.

It sucks normal people get forced into plea bargains when innocent, and then cases like this end up the way they do. Our criminal justice system is so garbage it's almost infuriating.
