Religion ruined my childhood, almost caused my parents to get divorced, an has caused immeasurable pain to many LGBT people I know. And that is just relatively tame Christianity. If you want to talk about hardcore life-ruining, go to the middle east. Saudi Arabia literally has a religious police force the patrols the streets. Oh I'm well aware of the struggles homosexual folk have when it comes to religion so I can understand why it's a problem for some of them.
