Or how beloved Reagan was, even by most people on the left. He was so liked that even legitimate issues would bounce off the guy because no one really wanted to attack him. I'll admit I wasn't around for neither Reagan nor HW, and I understand how beloved Reagan was -- hell, look at the cult he still commands. There's even the phrase "Reagan Democrat." But without having rose-tinted lenses, the dude was a hypocrite on many levels. He was head of a union before he gutted unions. He raised taxes after he lowered them and realized how much he'd fucked up. He bloated our military and wracked up huge debt in doing so, only to try to blame it on social programs.
