It's hilarious when people complain about Netflix not renewing a licensing contract and then also complain about a rate increase to help pay for the cost of said licensing contract.

People have an incredible sense of entitlement. It's even worse for Youtube. They're given hours of content absolutely free and have the audacity to complain when said content creators might actually want to support themselves with that career.

That's different in my book, possibly because I don't understand how content creators get paid and partly because, ultimately, a lot of the content creators quite frankly produce things you shouldn't make a living doing (like gimmicky game reviews in the vein of AVGN).

Some deserve money, like ProJared for being both entertaining and professional, but in that event I'd think about supporting them more directly by way of a Patreon or something similar. But acting like not subjecting my eyes to an ad is stealing money from them confuses me. Is YouTube tracking and reporting how many adblock users are visiting their video, prompting them to respond? Do they get paid per view of an ad? You can't skip every ad anymore. Some last 15 seconds and that's what you have to sit through. It feels user-hostile.

So anyone who bitches in my face about lost revenue is likely just going to lose me as a viewer. The most respectable YouTubers are the ones who try to be fresh and engaging while appreciating the viewership they get. I'll support those.
