I mean, stabbing somebody with a needle is pretty violent. Aside from periods, you're not going to bleed unless a blood vessel is damaged in some way, which I think is the point.


I don't know who draws your blood but most people certainly aren't "stabbed".

Needles fit that definition well enough. Heck, a phlebotomist that's gentle with the poking is more likely to cause extra damage and discomfort than one who just jabs it in there smoothly and quickly.


I would say that it only fits in the vaguest sense of the word. Connotation definitely doesn't work with it though.
