Yes, I'm thinking that if somebody wants me to treat them as something they don't appear to be, there has to be something physical that makes it ambiguous to me what they actually are. I can assume that most transgendered people have brain structure and/or hormones that it make it not clear what sex they "really" are, but if somebody has "white" skin and no African ancestors, I don't know why I should believe that they think they're black as opposed to just identifying with black people. ...
