Do you think Hoodies should be banned at public schools?

In one Full Day Sweep, over 150 High School Students were SUSPENDED for dress code violation of wearing HOODIES as it brings new criticism to the same district of the predominantly Hispanic and Black Student School at Wilby High School in Connecticut!!

The students were all summoned by dozens at a time and called out of class and benched until the next school day for wearing hoodies, forbidden colours and other violations.

The school is already under scrutiny for having a low number of minority teachers where 83% of them are white while the 84% of them are minorities..

16 y/o Allyanna Jones, an honours student was one of the ones suspended and said "I'd rather be cold than suspended" as she offered to remove her hoodie as a teacher told her "It's only a day, You'll get over it"

The district offered to wipe some of the suspensions from their records as it was supposed to be a "lesser punishment" for first time offenders.

Activists however said it's a deeper problem as half of them receive at least one suspension a year.

Robert Goodrich of the Radical Advocates for Cross-Cultural Education said "This is the purest example of promoting discipline over academic performance"

The Dress code says boys have to wear black or green shirts with their pants or shorts worn or belted at the wrist. All other colours NOT BLACK OR GREEN are BANNED. Girls can wear Skirts, dresses, pants and shorts and are required to only be in navy blue, black, grey or khaki. All other colours NOT NAVY BLUE, BLACK, GREY OR KHAKI coloured are BANNED. Hats, Caps and Hoodies are also banned..

Studies have shown that hispanics and black students are more likely to face harsher punishments that result in police involvement and arrests

Abbie Soto, a Junior said teachers are generally well connected to students but can't be said for other as 16 y/o Brian Collazo said if it were up to him there would be no dress code but do admit some take it too far.
