Something itching in the back of my mind like the name of the guy you met at a party once but can't quite remember. We'd have started drifting slowly. She'd miss breakfast a few times. I'd just play it off. "She's busy" I'd tell myself. "I'll get up earlier next time so I don't miss her" But the weeks would drag on and eventually the table would become a lonely island. I'd drown my morning sorrows in a bowl of fruit spins and drag my feet at work. Our nights would start to sound different. A TV in one room, while a voice fluttered on the phone in another. I'd never quite be able to make out the conversation. Sometimes the flirtatious laughter would make me raise an eyebrow.. but I'd bat it off. And then one night it would just happen. She'd come home.
