I like yaoi because it is a fantasy world in which homosexuality is fully normalized and accepted. It makes me forget how shitty the real world is.

And a lot of people criticize yaoi for this and say it ignores the hardships gay people face. The thing is, I dont want to see that in my entertainment. I am reminded of the hardships gay people face on a daily basis. I like being able to escape for 20-30 mins a day.

I criticize it because it fetishises homosexuality so middle-aged japanese women can masturbate to it, thereby reinforcing stereotypes about gay men, good and bad. Notice how most yaois are borderline rape?

Yaoi is definitely not perfect (far from it), but it ultimately paints a positive view of homosexuality and does more good than bad.

It paints a view of homosexuality as we're all perverts, who coerce each other into sex under dubious conditions.Yeah, a totally positive portrayal.

Naw, it is portrayed as "uncontrollable love" by the seme for the uke. While that is total BS and not a good thing, it is really only a small part of Yaoi. Yaoi is really about true love in spite of adversity.
