There's no need to ever parry with a shield because it doesn't slow down time like dodging so no point in learning how to parry everything. Well...actually it's still useful for disarming enemies but it doesn't disarm moblins as far as I know maybe shield strength plays a factor in disarming, but I like to use the enemies' weapons against them and never use my own cool stuff like that flamey spear.
