Jesus used illustrations and parables a lot because he preached to the poor and downtrodden who most likely didn't have a formal education. Using things they could relate to would help them grasp higher concepts. In this case obviously an illustration of something so small moving something so large is illustrating that even the smallest amount of faith can be powerful when a person uses it. --- I think I need a drink.
