Until some nurse, doctor, or hospital refuses to treat someone that's transgendered or actually violates a right, there is no issue here.

I feel like this would be akin to me getting upset in the ER because the nurse referred to me as Mexican when I'm not Mexican.

This. Like, who cares? They're still giving proper treatment, who cares if they made a mistake with gender identity? It's not leading to negative treatment, it's just a minor hiccup. And like people said, it IS, by definition, unnatural. So transgendered individuals might have to accept this for the time being, something like this won't change for a while.

Honestly, it shouldnt change. Transgenders make up such a small portion of the population that it does not make sense to cater to them specifically. If they wish to be transgender, then they should understand it is a very rare thing to deal with.

At the same point, are we going to have to learn about Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria so that we don't offend people who have that?

If you get offended because someone doesnt know a relatively rare and unknown thing, then there is something wrong with you.
