It's didn't say it's not a part of Russia, I said it was not Russia, which is the link the TC incorrectly tried to make. It has its own government, culture, and law enforcement. Other than to fulfill a desire to s*** on Russia/Putin, there is no connection. Octillery s*** the bed again because he's generally ignorant about this stuff, and the rest of the users getting pissy want to avoid what the actual cause for the homophobia in Chechnya is.

So what's the cause of the homophobia in Russia?

I don't know, to be honest. Russia and China are outliers in this area, since countries tend to become less homophobic as they become less religious:

However, let's not conflate homophobia in Russia with homophobia in Chechnya/the Middle East. Russian anti-gay sentiment is largely intolerance and occasionally imprisonment, although that seems rarely if ever enforced. Muslim anti-gay sentiment means death to homosexuals.
