The vague idea is that a store should listen to the demands of the market if it wants to get its supply side of things right. Which is a good notion, but ignores statistics and averages. Obviously, if 98% of your supermarket customer base is satisfied but there's always that one old granny who can't find her pickled artichoke hearts in red wine vinegar and paprika or whatever weird product, it's probably not right to change your entire supply model to accommodate her or else she "takes her business elsewhere".

One thing I will say though to stir the pot: people who work in retail can be the whiniest bitches imaginable. /r/talesfromretail is 90% "God, I can't believe this customer didn't understand the specific way our store works, here's my highly artistic rendition of how upset she got even though in real life she was just mildly irritated at the inconvenience".
