The proper pronunciation is "Tee-dus" since that's how it is pronounced in Japanese, with its root in the Okinawan word "tida (pronounced tee-da)" which means "sun." Further support for this is shown when they first officially pronounced it as "Tee-dus" in Kingdom Hearts and the fact that the English voice actor for Tidus pronounces it that way.
