Yeah, I find that series to be one of the funniest cases of straying away from its original premise.

To be fair, the original premise was just a ripoff of Point Break with fast cars.

But yeah, the series went completely off the wall around 4. It actually probably saved the series, as 3 was a big letdown and almost killed the series. I enjoy them because they are mindless action movies, but I don't know if I'll keep watching. My wife is a huge fan, but even she thought that 7 was enough. She also pointed out that 7 had the perfect ending and tied up all the loose ends.

Same for me. I watched the first in theaters along with everyone after that. I loved one and still do, second was good and I love Rome but it wasn't the same. 3 I enjoyed and hated, I loved the story and the drifting but hated not having the core gang from 1.

4 was a good split to bring things back to Dom and Brian. That was where they essentially became mindless action flicks but I still always loved having Dom and Brian together.

7 was the ending. It really should have been. I'll see 8 though because the family has expanded. It's not so much that I love them (even though I like almost all of them), but more that I know it was a huge part of helping Vin cope with losing Paul.

I'll support the movie for that reason alone TBH.
