"Hey guys we should limit who gets guns and make sure that people with mental health issues don't have the opportunity to have guns."

"THEY'RE TAKING OUR GUNS!!!!!" - the right

Please explain what that does to address the problem with criminals getting their hands on illegal weapons. I'll save you the trouble: not a damned thing.

Most of the big story gun violence is done by people who have mental health issues and should of never been approved to have a gun in the first place.

Solving that issues will help lower gun violence.

Here in canada we have stricter laws and I don't get to hear someone shot up the nearby movie premiere or mall every month

I personally believe the laws are the least likely factor as to why the US has so many shootings. I think mental illness is much more prominent in the states, and goes untreated much more often. Also, there is some real trash in America. I know it exists everywhere, but even middle class families, so many of them are just terrible, terrible parents. Parenting is something that needs to be looked at as an issue, because nobody talks about it until its too late and they say "where were the parents". Granted, you can be the best parent in the world and still end up with a pile of shit, but I think a lot of people who have committed these acts probably didn't have the best support from family.
