For example you can live pretty decently off 15/hr here in KC.

The only true beneficiaries of a $15 minimum wage in KC are going to be North KC, KCK, and Independence. Maybe also Gladstone, Grandview, and Lee's Summit.

This phrasing makes me think you don't understand what the problem with free riders is... The whole issue is that they can benefit without sacrificing, giving them no personal incentive to buy-in. But on top of that, you're misassigning blame -- if unions suck, then companies shouldn't be able to get their arms twisted by unions because employees will be happy without them anyway.

Retail Clerks v. Lion Dry Goods, Inc.
https://supreme.justia.com/cases/federal/us/369/17/case.html

The Union is only obligated to negotiate and intervene on behalf of its members, and is fully within its rights to tell free-riders to get stuffed.

Lmao so basically all the relevant parts of KC? If you're including Shawnee/Olathe/Overland Park that's basically the KC metro area

They just need to make it proportionate to region cost of living.
