The voice commands are supposed to be simple like 1~3 words, and there are timing in which you have to actually give commands or Pikachu will cancel the previous command prematurely. The problem was that it's too hard for kids to realize this about the game, and adults remember it to be simply unworkable that they don't recognize there are patterns to playing this game.
