You know I bet the thought of breaking a law about gun ownership would have struck his consciense and prevented him from attempting to murder multiple childrn, which he was presumably ok with.

People will break laws. It doesn't mean they shouldn't exist. It's about the access to those guns. "But the black market!"...it's easy as fuck to walk into any shop and just buy a gun for shit like this. You make it a little harder for people like that and it could prevent things like this. Not 100%, but even one incident being prevented is better than none.
On the flip side. Hold responsible gun owners accountable if someone like this is able to get to their guns. It shouldn't be that easy.
