I really wouldn't compare it to Seinfeld at all. It's more like a show about everything, where the genre rapidly shifts and changes. It tries to do a lot of interesting things. the focus shifts around a lot, the whole show feels very experimental, which is likely why it was so impactful. The main characters are assholes, but that's actually true of quite a few anime (I'm currently watching Konosuba which is a popular recent anime featuring absolute degenerates as main characters). I feel like it's less interesting when trying to view it as a whole, unless you think of the show as sort of a mystery building up to the final film, but that's kind of a dubious interpretation. --- ...
