Saying we won it is pretty much revisionist history as the message that we'd surrendered to the British hadn't made it to Andrew Jackson yet, and the Brits were already packing up and leaving (after having burned down the white house) so Andrew Jackson attacked some crappy british fortification and then they left (cause they were leaving anyway) and then the story goes "Andrew Jackson beat the British so bad they ran away."
