Perhaps you could expand on what specifically the mom did that justifies this type of search

He left his laptop in his bag

Which, as i just went through tsa yesterday, they tell you specfically to take large electronics out of your bags and put them in seperately.

They repeat this multiple times
They have signs saying this.

And the mother failed to do this. Then when they got in trouble, asked them to not search the child as he has a condition thats rare and not to touch him. That could also be a warning flag that im sure tsa was thinking about. I doubt they have procedures in place for a rare disorder like this.

I feel awful for the kid, but if as a parent you cant follow clearly labeled instructions that are also getting shouted constantly by the multiple tsa officers, then you dont get to sit here and cry when it was your incompetance that lead you to that situation in the first place.

This doesnt mean tsa isnt a joke. Tsa sucks, but they did their job, the mother failed to follow directions.

I don't think any of that justifies what they did here. A further search was warranted, but they went way beyond that. The way you've worded this indicates that you feel this is an appropriate consequence for not following directions, but security screenings aren't supposed to be about punishing people.
