"Give me time to sort things out," you say. "I know our family and theirs are intertwined across generations, and the deadline is my birthday, but... I have something I need to figure out right now, before I can meet with any of them. Can I at least get that?"

"Yes, of course," Father says. "But please, be sure you can be here to tell everyone your answer yourself."

"Yes, sir," you say. "Now, I have to get back, breakfast is waiting. I'll talk to you all again soon."

"Until then," Father says.

You hang up and put your phone away. You then return to Raven and your table to see not only the drinks but the food has been served. You sit down, pick up your fork and knife, and begin cutting into the pancakes.

"So who called?" Raven asks.

"My father, though my sisters were present."

"Oh."

You cut the pancakes into fourths before pouring on syrup from the little cup provided.

"So..." Raven continues. "What did you talk about?"

"It was basically just the two of us apologizing and coming to an understanding after these last few years," you say. "Well, that was part of the conversation. The rest of it was another issue that we haven't so much been arguing over, as he and my mother have been nagging me to address and I just haven't had the guts to do that."

"Is it that serious?" she asks.

"Well it's not life-threatening," you say. "But it is life-defining. And time-sensitive."

"So, you need to have done something by a certain time?"

"Pretty much," you say. "Seems I have more than one 'long story' myself."

"And this other issue is bigger than whatever you'd been arguing about for years?"

"It's rather complex," you say. "You see, I argued with my father because we had different opinions on what I should be. I wanted to honor the Rorek name by traveling the world, learning and growing on my own, while my father wanted me to honor the legacy that the entire family built, which included the family business.

"This other issue... it's big. A big family tradition, sort of."

"What are we even talking about?" Raven asks. "You haven't even told me what the exact circumstances are."

"Yes, about that..."

Raven stares at you intently as you struggle to push out words.

A) Tell her it's a bit soon to tell her this stuff
B) Tell her all of this, and hope she remains calm
