Please. Furthermore no matter how you look at it, welfare is necessary to our economic structure. If you got rid of welfare (or even if you severely limit what it can do), you will see theft, murder, and rape crime rates go up. No president would get re-elected when the opposing candidate could say, "during your presidency we have become <insert stats here> less safe".
We'd probably hire more police officers to try and keep the rates as low as they are right now, but all we'd see is more speed traps and more people get caught after the crime had already taken place.
