a year ago i think it did actually, but it was very close. android just basically doubled in the course of a year, and doubled the year before that. the growth it's had has been something out of this world and for a brief period of time it was fielding 60% of new activations. seriously, it's nuts. that's why i personally found it entertaining when guys like square were saying 'YEAH WE'LL DO IPHONE GAMES!' because they were saying that square in the middle of android skyrocketing. they basically missed the right one to back then, but now they're doing it all android too.
windows has a tough road ahead of it, but nokia's a very strong supporter to have. i can easily see windows take a good 7% of symbian's stuff on its own and mooch off rim's decline as well to get itself some 10-12% of the market by this time next year. nokia just needs to step it up, and they're doing so.
from there it's down to MS and Windows 8. that's their game changer, not 7. thing is if they do it right and they get enough support, they could double those figures and become No. 2. this year's mostly about android running away in all fields (ice cream sandwich will help on the firmware - no more division of what version of android you're using), Windows trying to break out, and Apple being profit monsters despite their marketshare. they're the most ??? of the three, with their focus now going to international markets as they can't compete with the US anymore; even with a stellar holiday season they couldn't beat android's growth in that quarter. thing is, south korea and japan are heavily android places. especially the former - that's Samsung. good luck with that. the Note's a success over there and that is a 5.3" screen.
