As if macs aren't made in the same crappy factories as other computers.

They're made in the same factory district and mostly by the same company (Foxconn), certainly, but the quality of the products inside an Apple are higher than, say, a Dell or an HP. Odds are, your Macbook is going to last longer than a laptop from those two companies as well.

The point is that you can sacrifice insignificant things that aren't worth paying double for.

Totally. I wouldn't say weight and battery life are insignificant, especially considering most laptops are sold to university students. Lugging around a 6 pound laptop all day to classes where you'll have to always keep an eye on how much battery life you have remaining can be a choir. If I was in the market for a laptop today, I would pay more money upfront so I wouldn't have to worry about either issue. Luckily, the market is going to be flooded with Ultrabooks, so maybe the price will eventually fall on thin, light laptops with SSD HDs and great battery life.

It's not even like the software is a direct improvement. It's a preference thing. I personally hate iOS and its attempt to lock down and hide features of a system that is supposed to be very open (UNIX), and I much prefer the customizability of Windows and Linux. But tons of people love the locked down iOS system, because you can't accidentally break it.

If given a choice between two equal laptops offered at an equal price, one an Air and the other an Ultrabook from Asus, I'd go with the Asus. I just like Windows more. So I'm with you here.

I'm just not with you here:

It's just annoying when "Mac people" get all pissy when you say that the price isn't worth it for the hardware.

Some Apple products are certainly overpriced. iMacs, for example, or proprietary products, or low-end iPods. But other products (iPad, iPhone) are priced competitively, while still others (iPod Classic, the Macbook Air until now) fulfil needs that almost no other company does.

It's not a case of 'everything is overpriced' or 'everything is worth it.' Apple are a company just like any other - some products are great, some aren't.
