Similar specs and hardware, or similar ability to be fit into a manila envelope? Because the Air definitely has the last one covered.
specs, customer service, quality product - everything. i'm well aware that it's quite easy to get a more powerful laptop than a macbook air for less, but you're going to be sacrificing something else (worse battery life, lack of ssd hds, unreliable manufacturer, whatever) in order to get the price down. just look at the line of ultrabooks coming out this year from a number of companies. they're all priced around the macbook air.
i don't think the air is a perfect product, and i certainly don't think i would ever buy a desktop mac, but the air is pretty cool!
