that one example is not the crux of the argument. i'll state it explicitly, in bold text, so it can get through to you: this isn't about you. you may not value the convenience of Apple products, but millions of people do. that you continue to be dumbfounded by the reasons people would use Apple products despite numerous real-world scenarios says more about your lack of empathy and/or social skills than it does about the supposed gullibility of millions of people.
and it's not a matter of intelligence, it's a matter of familiarity. my girlfriend's mother is clueless when placed in front of a computer but knows how to use an ipad. she regularly uses epicurious while cooking because it's easy and it saves paper. i own hundreds of books and yet i still use instapaper on the way to school.
