^Are you saying that combos are a good thing?
The concept of combos is innately anti-skill based. It means that if you've memorized a simple button combination, you can kick your opponent's ass without him having ANY possibility of stopping it regardless of skill level. That's stupid and uncompetitive.
Brawl was a huge improvement over Melee in almost every way; people only hate on it because they expect a Nintendo party game to be Street Fighter.
Tripping needs to go though, and the balance could use some work so all the characters are at least usable, though that will always be the case in every game with a ton of characters.
