The show actually had great potential, but was cancelled.
To explain that scene the dude is actually a robot, but since they're on earth he has to appear like a human, and go to school so that they seem normal. He's still very smart though, and helps that girl with her homework so she wont get kicked off the cheerleading team. She wants him to do it for her though, which is why she tries that in video to convince him, but he incists on only helping.
