How are Mario/Bowser rivals over Peach? If you meant her love, I'm fairly certain there's no rivalry. Even if you meant her as an object, that's not a rivalry, which is more like police fighting bank robbers to get back the money. Where is the rivalry?
play the RPGs. Bowser and Mario have a much better defined rivalry in those. Even Shigeru Miyamoto says that he always thought Bowser and Mario as rivals. Bowser wants Peach's affection and he is willing to do anything to get it, whether it means playing the hero, villain, or neutral.
