btw i haven't been paying a ton of attention this offseason because the yankees aren't doing anything, so can somebody explain to me where the marlins got all of this money? did tony montana buy the team? isn't this the same team that won the world series twice and then traded all of their players?
They were turning something like a $25 million yearly profit or something due to their ridiculously low payroll. But they lied to the city about their finances to get a new stadium with the city paying for something like 80%. Now the Marlins own the stadium instead of renting it, so their profits go up a whole bunch.
Coincidentally, the SEC recently announced an investigation of the Marlins' business practices.
