Without listening yet, votals for game of the decade were just fine. The site may be shrinking, but a good contest will put asses in seats and this is not a good contest.

Going by the average votals for the night matches in Game of the Decade, the average votals would be about 73569 (factoring in the 24-hour matches as well) for the entire contest. Regular POTDs from September 1st to October 19th (the day before the contest started) had average votals of 62615, so Game of the Decade was bringing in the votes and more site traffic as well.

Game of the Decade was still slightly better than the 2002 contest, which had an average of 68353, although that average is heavily skewed by the later rounds getting a huge spike in votals.

As for yoblazer mentioning the Alexa rankings for this site, he's right about all these hot games increasing site traffic, but it has not translated into higher votals for this contest. The low point was in late September, right around when Gears of War 3 was released. The traffic rank came close to falling down to about 1300 at one point, but it has remained above 700 most of the time during the past 15 days.

There is one problem with using these Alexa graphs. The Alexa graphs and traffic rankings are based off the people who use the Alexa Toolbar, so the traffic rankings are based off of a very small subset of the entire internet population.
